Restrict Access
Security is more than "all or nothing." Windows security can be
based on Users and User Groups. You can restrict some files so that
only the people who are authorized can edit or even open them. This
is called Information Rights Management (IRM). IRM is part of
Windows Vista, but it can be downloaded and added to Windows XP.
IRM is a licensing program, basically. You add a Use License
to each file you want to restrict and indicate which people can use
this file.
When you open a restricted file, you need to be online so that you
can connect to a server, show your credentials, and download a use
license. The use license say what permissions you are given: Read,
Read/Write, Edit, Save or Print.

Rights Management is a client-server product that uses a server to
authenticate your rights. IRM may not be available on your
installation of Microsoft Office 2007 Professional.
