Prepare to Share Microsoft Access can be configured for startup, maintenance and security.  Before you share this mighty database, you should review the options.   Try it: Edit the Advanced Options Default open mode: Shared. Shared allows many users to open the database. Exclusive restricts the database to one user.   Default record locking: No locks. If you lock All Records, then the data cannot be updated, only reviewed.   Record-Level Locking By default, Microsoft Access locks the record someone is editing so that two users cannot change the same record at the same time.
