Start -> Control Panel -> Appearance and Personalization

Change the Video Settings

The Screen Resolution adjusts the size and clarity of the images. The default is 1024 x 728. This resolution fits a 17" monitor. It correctly shows the width of a sheet of paper as 8 1/2". The default for Windows XP was 800 x 600.

Try it: Go to Start ->Control Panel
Find Appearance and Personalization
Click on Adjust Screen Resolution

Select 800 x 600

The video display may flicker as Windows adjusts the screen resolution. You will be given an opportunity to keep or cancel these settings.
