Meanest Mama In The World
By definition, the System
Administrator is responsible for making sure that all of the computers
work right. When the computer won’t print to the laser, who are they
going to call? The Administrator. When the work is done and the data
should be backed up, who’s going to do it? The Administrator.
That’s you! You worked very hard to set the system up. Wouldn’t it be
great if it stayed that way?
The best way to insure that things stay put is to limit the rights on
the system. These are not home PCs. These are workstations. Think about
it: there may be years of data on the hard drives. Should that be at
risk because someone wanted to add an ill-behaved game or screen saver?
Business computers need security
The
older versions of Microsoft Windows (say, Windows
95, Windows 98 and Windows ME) did not very good security. Today, if you are running a business you need
a
business operating system. Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista are
robust, secure operating systems that can protect your data. Security
begins with the user.
