Most people pull the memory stick or USB cable out and off they go. Windows Vista actually has a program that safely parks your device and makes it ready to remove.

 

Try This: Safely Remove a Memory Stick

Insert a memory stick into a USB slot. Look by the system clock in the bottom right corner of the Task Bar.

 

What Do You See? There should be a small picture of a memory stick with a green check mark. When you run your mouse over the program, should might see the name of the drive and the option to safely remove it.
