Personal Folders (*.pst)

The Outlook Data file is buried deep in the computer. The default location looks like this:

C:\Documents and Settings\user name\local settings\application data\Microsoft\Outlook

It may seem like a long way to go to find the file, but the theory here is that all settings and documents should follow a user from machine to machine. Microsoft has defined a method and a structure for saving the user data consistently.

However, if you would like to choose a different folder to save your Outlook data, that works, too.

In a small office or home office, it’s OK to save your personal data file in the Documents folder or on the C:\ hard drive.

File -> Data Management -> Data Files
